Broadhempston Primary School

School Council

At our school, we believe that every child’s voice matters and our School Council is a wonderful way to make sure those voices are heard.

Each year, children who would like to be councillors prepare a short speech to share what they can offer and their classmates then vote for their representatives. This is great example of democracy in action, helping children to understand how elections work and giving them the chance to take part in an important decision.

Once elected, councillors work together on a variety of projects. They help to organise school events, lead assemblies, and gather ideas from their classes about how to make our school even better. They are role models for responsibility and teamwork, showing how young people can make a real difference.

Being part of the School Council means pupils take ownership of aspects of school life. It ensures that children’s ideas and opinions are valued and respected and it helps to shape positive changes across the whole school community.

Through the School Council, our pupils learn about leadership, responsibility, and the power of working together and they see first-hand how their ideas can have an impact.
