Learning Outside the Classroom

Published: 15 Aug '25

This year, our school is working towards achieving the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Mark – a nationally recognised award that celebrates schools who make the most of the world beyond the classroom walls.

Learning doesn’t just happen at desks – it happens in playgrounds, parks, museums, forests and the wider community. By taking lessons outside, we give children exciting, hands-on experiences that help them connect what they learn in school to the real world.

Why is this award important?

  • It recognises our commitment to giving pupils a broad, rich curriculum that goes beyond textbooks.

  • It celebrates the creativity and enthusiasm of our staff, who plan safe, inspiring activities in a variety of settings.

  • It shows our dedication to developing life skills such as confidence, problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience.

From Forest School adventures, to trips to historical sites, to using the local community as a learning resource, our aim is to make learning memorable, relevant, and full of discovery.

Achieving the LOtC Quality Mark will be a proud moment for our school – but most importantly, it will mean our pupils continue to benefit from engaging, inspiring, and meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
